Well I’m one year older today and I’ve also been writing this diary for just over a yeah as well. I think I’m supposed to write something insightful about how I’ve grown over the year and what I’ve learnt. Sod that for a game of soldiers, I’m off to watch a DVD and eat a Krispy Kreme doughnut

I went to see the John Butler Trio last night at the Brixton Academy. This was an amazing gig, the first few songs were a bit disappointing as the guitar was bit quiet, but after that was sorted out the gig took off. It just kept on getting better and better; the passion and energy from all three was amazing. I particularly enjoyed the drum solo that must have lasted at least eight minutes, at one point the drummer was sitting with his back to the audience, playing some drums behind him, while still playing the bass drum with his foot reversed, amazing. Stand out tracks included Zebra, which really got the crowd going as well as the sublime Ocean.

I had a go at the Team Fortress 2 beta last night and this is one fun game. It looks great as well, you wouldn’t think that the cartoony feel would work for an FPS (First Person Shooter) but it does. You can also see how well (and badly) I’m doing by visiting my stats page.

I don’t usually like posting links to videos on youtube, but I found this one quite funny. It was done by the people who create the Looking for Group comic, which you probably won’t find funny unless you like computer games.
Warning: There is some cartoon violence.

I’ve recently setup my MP3 player to use last.fm, this makes a record of every song that you listen to. You can see my “Artist Quilt” on the right-hand side of this page. There are a lot of duplicates at the moment because I haven’t been logging the results for a while, but it should be interesting to look at after a few months listening. You can also check out my profile page here: http://www.last.fm/user/wooglie. Let me know if you are using this already and we can compare.

Most people reading this probably won’t have heard of this series due to the fact that it hasn’t been shown on TV yet. Sanctuary is unique in that it is being released over the internet only, but is actually being filmed by a proper company and has actors in it you have heard of. Sanctuary is a sci-fi/fantasy story about Dr. Helen Magnus, played by Amanda Tapping of Stargate SG-1 fame, who seeks to help and study weird monsters and creatures. They’ve obviously done their homework as a lot of sci-fi and fantasy fans are computer geeks as well. You can watch the episodes for free a couple of weeks after they are released on youtube and the like, but I have downloaded the HD quality version of the episodes. They work out quite reasonable with the current US exchange rate.

I’ve been getting into a few new series recently, so I thought i’d write a post about them. First up we have Dexter, the unique story about a police forensics expert who is actually a serial killer, who goes around killing murderers who have escaped justice. I had heard lots of glowing reviews so watched the first couple of episodes and was hooked. You actually find yourself rooting for Dexter and the few times he comes close to being discovered you are actually hoping that he manages to get out of it. Whether this is a good thing or not I don’t know, but makes for very compelling viewing.
