I saw went to see Linkin Park at the O2 in London yesterday, that’s two gigs in four days. This was a bit of a last minute thing as I won a ticket off ebay last week. It paid off nicely as I got a seated ticket very close to the stage and paid roughly what the ticket originally cost. You can see how close I was in the very blurry picture below.

The gig had been smiling from start to finish, as although Linkin Park are a bit too commercial for a lot of people, I really enjoy their slant of rock/metal mixed with rapping and mixing/scratching. The songs just make you want to jump around and I found myself singing (well yelling ;) ) along to loads of the songs.

Saw Alter Bridge on Saturday night at the Astonia in London. I have only recently got into this band after my house mate introduced me to them. Unfortunately he couldn’t go to the gig due to man-flu. It was an excellent gig for many reasons, but mainly because the band rocked. I probably should have ‘rocked’ in capital letters or numerous exclamation marks after it, but you get the idea. There was loads of showmanship with the three guitarists regularly lining up in a row to play riffs together and Mark Tremonti (lead guitarist) had some excellent solos. Myles Kennedy’s (lead vocals and guitar) unique voice carried above the excellent rocking of the rest of the band and they all seemed to be having the time of their lives. It was an excellent gig and I enjoyed it immensely. If you get the chance to obtain tickets for their show in November, you won’t be disappointed.

Saw the latest Coen Brothers’ film last night and very good it was to. The story of how a guy stumbles upon $2 million and the various people trying to get the money back, seems very simple, but has various twists and turns including one of the most psychotic villains in a film for quite some time. This film won’t be for everyone, even if you don’t mind all the violence and swearing, as the Coem Brothers’ (Ethan Coen and Joel Coen) style is very different from other directors around at the time. This unique style is what makes this film such compelling viewing for me and I’m glad to see that it has been nominated for eight Academy Awards.

Just before Christmas I bought this on DVD cheap from Amazon.com (£4.82 for those who are interested) and I eventually got round to watching it this weekend. While a change from the normal sort of DVD I’d buy I got this film after hearing good things about it and how Seth Rogen is the next best thing in comedies, he also wrote the very popular Superbad (which I haven’t seen). The simple story of what happens when a girl gets pregnant after a one night stand is very well done. I really enjoyed the film, particularly Seth’s performance and the interaction between his and Katherine Heigl’s characters were hilarious and at times quite heart warming. The supporting cast were very good as well including numerous cameos and particular mention has to go to the house mates who were nuts and funny throughout the film.

I saw the latest Will Smith film on Wednesday night. Very good film it is too. Will Smith has certainly come a long way since the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. As he was alone for a large part of the film a lot was riding on his performance and he didn’t disappoint. Although the special effects of a desolate and abandoned New York were impressive, Smith’s performance of a man trying to keep a hold on his sanity was extremely well done. I’d definitely recommend you go and see this one.
