The Dark Knight

Now that’s what I call a film. The Dark Knight is the follow up to Christopher Nolan‘s 2005 film Batman Begins and is one of the most hyped films of the year, if not for a few years. This is due, in part, to the sad demise of Heath Ledger who plays the Joker in the film. The film also broke numerous records when it opened in America, taking $155.34 million in the first weekend. There’s a reason for that. The film is amazing. It’s awesome, not the cheesy American use of the word, but the British use of the word*.
This is one of the best films I’ve seen for a while and is definitely the best comic book movie there is. Not sure what else I can say; the film has great characterisation, some amazing performances (especially Aaron Eckhart and the already mentioned Heath Ledger), excellent special effects that don’t look like special effects (if you get what I mean) and plenty of commentary on ethics and difficult choices. Even if you don’t like comic books or Batman you should go and see this. I’m off to see if anyone wants to go with me to see it again.
*awesome (adjective): causing feelings of great admiration, respect or fear.
