So the first series of the new spin off from the Stargate franchise came to end this week. I really enjoyed this new series and after a bit of a rocky start it has definitely come together. While the premise isn’t anything new, bunch of people stuck together on a space ship unable to get back home, the rivalries and interactions between the characters work quite well. I particularly enjoy the friction between Robert Carlyle‘s Dr Rush and Justin Louis’ Colonel Young. One minor downside is that the series ended on a rather tense cliff hanger, so I will have to wait until September to find out how they resolve that.

Group of twenty some things living in New York? While there are comparisons to be made with Friends this is still highly entertaining and hilarious comedy, particularly Neil Patrick Harris‘s character Barney. Been out for a while, but I’ve managed to watch the first three series since the beginning of May

I just finished watching the second series of this television show and what a blinder of a final episode, not to mention the entire series as a whole. The show focuses on a vigilante/criminal motorcycle gang in small town America and their interactions with the rest of the town. The first series was brilliant, but this one seems to build on the quality of the first. Some episodes aren’t easy viewing and definitely isn’t suitable for children, but the acting and direction is brilliant throughout, some scenes leave with you the sense that you’ve just been punched in the stomach. The last scene of series two literally made my jaw drop. Definitely a series to catch.

Who said the BBC can’t do science fiction? The five part Torchwood special has been showing every night this week and has been met with unprecedented approval. This show has come a long way from the widely slated first series. Torchwood was originally marketed as ‘Doctor Who for grown ups’ and this season has finally lived up to the expectations. The final episode especially has some very harrowing scenes, including some excellent acting from Peter Capaldi. I’d go into details, but I’d spoil it. Go watch it on the iPlayer while you can. I’m awaiting news of a new series, which should be a sure thing after the success of this one.

I’ve just finished watching the second series of this television show. Really enjoyed this and definately worth watching when it appears over here. The show is based upon Chuck who works in an electronics store, but secretly works for the CIA. It particulary works for me as there are lot of technical (read geeky) references that I get as well as lots of homages to science fiction. The last series has included guest appearances by Scott Bakula and Chevy Chase, who were both great. There is a great supporting cast including the two CIA agents who work with Chuck, his family and friends.

Just finished watching the last episode of this new BBC drama and I’m very impressed. With all the excellent stuff coming out of America, it’s been a while since something from the UK has competed (especially something from the BBC). While I enjoyed Robin Hood and Merlin, they were nowhere near as good as Supernatural or Battlestar Galactica, whereas Being Human was as good as some of it’s American counterparts. The story is of a werewolf, vampire and ghost all sharing a house and as the episodes go on you find out about how each person got to the state they are in and this is what makes the show. You find yourself getting involved with all of the main characters and the struggles they go through coming to terms with there differences to humans. It was shown on BBC 3, but I reckon there should be repeats and I’m eagerly looking forward to the second series.
