Managed to get my new CPU to run at 4GHz. Not bad when it’s supposed to run at 2.8GHz.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World

Saw this great film today and it didn’t disappoint. The story follows Scott and his relationship with Ramona, which takes an unexpected turn when it turns out Scott has to defeat Ramona’s seven evil exes. The film has a wonderful 90s computer game feel to it, that director Edgar Wright (Sean of the Dead and Hott Fuzz) uses to great affect to emphasise parts of the film and the seven fights are as hilarious as they are awesome. The film has a wonderful and varied cast, Scott’s friends and all the evil exes work well Michael Cera, who though often typecast comes across much more confident in this role. I’d definitely recommend you go and see it, especially if you grew up with Amigas or arcade machines.

Saw this film on Wednesday and what an awesome film it was. It was so good that we had to change cinemas because the first one had sold out of seats. The film is based around the idea that extractors are able to hack into your dreams and find out your secrets. What follows is various dream sequences that mess with reality and feature loads of amazing special effects. Almost like a cross between the Matrix and Alice in Wonderland. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely recommend you go and see it.

Watched this on BluRay over the weekend. Stunning film. The story is about a hitman who rescues a young girl and take her under his wing. Some excellent performances from Jean Reno, Natalie Portman and Gary Oldman. Definitely get yourself a copy if you haven’t seen it before.

Stargate Universe

So the first series of the new spin off from the Stargate franchise came to end this week. I really enjoyed this new series and after a bit of a rocky start it has definitely come together. While the premise isn’t anything new, bunch of people stuck together on a space ship unable to get back home, the rivalries and interactions between the characters work quite well. I particularly enjoy the friction between Robert Carlyle‘s Dr Rush and Justin Louis’ Colonel Young. One minor downside is that the series ended on a rather tense cliff hanger, so I will have to wait until September to find out how they resolve that.

Two great, twenty minute, American sitcoms

Community

Really funny new sitcom (started in America last year) based in a community college. The show centres on a group of unlikely friends who create a study group for their Spanish class. Very funny and some really adorable and weird characters.

How I Met Your Mother

Group of twenty some things living in New York? While there are comparisons to be made with Friends this is still highly entertaining and hilarious comedy, particularly Neil Patrick Harris‘s character Barney. Been out for a while, but I’ve managed to watch the first three series since the beginning of May

Iron Man 2

I loved the first Iron Man film and unless I’m mistaken (I was mistaken Transformers 1 and 2 was) this is the first sequel where I’ve reviewed both films on my website . The second follows on where the first ends, so expect spoilers below if you haven’t seen the first film yet. (If you haven’t, why not? Go and rent the DVD/BluRay now.) The film actually starts with the villain watching the closing scene of the first film, where Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr, who I am quickly becoming a fan of) announces to the world that he is Iron Man, so in this film he has to fight off rival arms manufactures and the government, who want access to his iron man technology, as well as Blacklash/Ivan Vanko who is set on revenge. If you enjoyed the first one I’d recommend you see this one., it might not be as good as the first film, but it definitely gets close.

Kick Ass

This film is awesome . The story centres around a kid who decides to become a super hero and his interactions with real heroes and villains. This film is hilarious, rude and violent all in equal measure. In fact there are times when your laughing turns to wincing all too quickly. You also have the most charming and most foul mouthed child super hero I’ve ever seen, Hit Girl; this is definitely not Spy Kids. Hit Girl is played by Chloe Moretz who does an amazing job playing the character and works very well with Nicolas Cage’s Big Daddy. There are some hilarious and touching moments between the on screen father and daughter. If you still have any doubts I’ll leave you with the BBFC’s summary: “Contains strong language, once very strong, & strong bloody comic violence”
